"There are two sorts of artists, one not being in the least superior to the other. But one responds to the history of his or her art so far, and the other responds to life itself."
I came across that quote while reading Kurt Vonnegut's "A Man without a Country" although he credits it to his friend Saul Steinberg. So it's not really Vonnegut's quote that I like, but since Steinberg never wrote some sweet books, tough luck to him.
And since this is more or less an art blog, here's a sketch of Vonnegut reading from his book. Therefore it's like he's reading this quote to you, but not really because he's dead and this is just a drawing.
